Chocolate Martini – Dessert Style

The Dessert Style Chocolate Martini is made with equal parts of Vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream and White Crème de Cacao. Served in a Martini glass drizzled with Chocolate, this sweeter style cocktail tastes a lot better than the traditional Chocolate Martini.

The Dessert Style Chocolate Martini does lack the elegance of the classic Chocolate Martini which is clear in colour. The dessert style Chocolate Martini that I’m writing about here can be made to look fancy, (Instagram is littered with pictures of this Chocolate Martini) but, with its creamy colour, it looks like a drink you’d order at an Applebee’s, and not at a black tie/dress event. I only mention this as I’ve spent decades working many posh events where you were judged on what you drank.

This creamier style Chocolate Martini is sweet, delicious and, of course, chocolatey. More suitable as a dessert than a traditional dry cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Vodka

  • 1 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream

  • 1 oz. Crème de Cacao Clear

  • Chocolate Syrup (optional)

Directions

  • Rim a Martini glass with Chocolate Syrup and/or drizzle Chocolate Syrup inside the glass.
  • Add Vodka, Crème de Cacao and Bailey’s to a Cocktail shaker full of ice and Shake
  • Strain into a Martini Glass – be careful not to pour directly on to any drizzled chocolate syrup
  • Serve with shaved chocolate on top.

Notes

What Does A Chocolate Martini Taste Like?

A Chocolate Martini does not taste boozy at all, making it dangerous. I would describe a Chocolate Martini as tasting like Chocolate Milk with a sharp bite on the finish.

What also makes the dessert style Chocolate Martini dangerous is the sugar level. Since there is a significant amount of booze in here, you can get quite drunk on Chocolate Martinis fast. The sugar content could make you sick to your stomach or give you a raging headache the next day. My advice, stick to one Chocolate Martini.

Best Chocolate Liqueur for a Chocolate Martini?

Clear Crème de Cacao is the standard liqueur if you order a Chocolate Martini at a bar, but it is not the best Chocolate Liqueur to use. Clear Crème de Cacao is often what’s used as it’s the only chocolate flavoured liqueur most bars or restaurants might have on hand.

If you are making a Chocolate Martini at a home or featuring it as a special cocktail at an event or restaurant, there are a wide variety of chocolate liqueurs you can use to improve this drink recipe.

    • Bailey’s Chocolate Cherry
    • Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
    • Sheelin White Chocolate
    • Mozart Chocolate Cream Liqueur
    • Patrón XO Cafe Dark Cocoa
    • Dorda Double Chocolate Liqueur
    • Marie Brizard Chocolat Royal

You can also experiment by using a vanilla flavoured vodka, or a Bailey’s alternative like Bottega Gianduia Liqueur.
